Kaposi’s Sarcoma: My Journey

Kaposi’s Sarcoma: My Journey

My name is Jane, and I have been living with Kaposi’s Sarcoma for the past few years. I remember the day I found out I had it like it was yesterday—the shock, the fear, and most of all, the powerlessness I felt. But over time I’ve realized that while I may not have been able to control how I contracted this disease, I can control how I live my life with it.

Struggles: I have had to learn to adjust to the changes this disease has brought to my life. I have had to adjust to taking medications, to doctors visits, and to the physical pain associated with it. All of these have been difficult for me, but I have learned to manage them.

Progress: Although it’s been a long and difficult journey, I have come out of it stronger and wiser. I have had to understand the limits of my body and what I can expect from it. I have had to learn to pace myself, to balance rest and activity, and to become more aware of my needs.

Empowerment: By exploring my journey through this disease, I have also become empowered. I have learned to take control of my own life and to make choices to promote my health. It has been a difficult journey, but it has also been a journey of growth, understanding, and empowerment.
